Pileated Woodpeckers, native to North America, are very striking birds thanks to their red crests. This woodpecker was seen by a friend travelling in America and I was drawn to the contrast between the red of its crest and the green forest behind. I also thought the fungi on the tree added a bit of interest but I made sure not to detract focus

Sheltered Perch

I saw these puffins at Bempton Cliffs in Yorkshire while they were sheltering from the North Sea winds. It's difficult to see them amidst the hundreds of gannets and guillemots circling the cliffs but when they land their vivid beaks and feet make them unmistakable. This pair hung around just long enough for me to take photos. 

Two Sentries

I saw these Red deer at Studley Royal Estate in Yorkshire. This herd was used to people and so were content with me sitting close by to take photos. The Lime tree they're standing beneath is a common feature of the Estate and provided the perfect place for the deer to rest.
